When calculating a particular vessel for repower or gearing, it is always a good idea to run the vessel's initial configuration and then compare it with the new configuration to determine appropriate speed increases or propeller sizes. Both light and heavily loaded conditions should be checked to be certain the prop does not become overloaded.

For racing applications, reasonably predictable results have been achieved by entering approximately 50% of the weight for a high-speed catamaran and 75% of the weight for a deep-V to help accommodate for increased lift generated by the hull at speeds near 100 mph.
